Through deterrence, criminals are deterred from their actions and thus the criminal justice system using harsh penalties to try and deter them from engaging in criminal related issues. On the other hand, retribution justifies the punishment and thus the criminals are punished for their wrong deed to the society so that a repeat for the same will never be conducted. Rehabilitation ensures that through counseling and guidance transformation of individuals is achieved while incapacitation ensures that the criminal will be behind the bars for a period of time so that one will not commit crime again. When individuals are behind the bars serving for the criminal offence that was conducted, some may transform and others get worse and they will do anything so that they can be incapacitated again. The high numbers of individuals who are behind the bars are mothers and fathers who are serving in different prisons thus not carrying their responsibilities. The gap between the father and mother figure is important in the growth and development of child thus the trend will continue of incapacitation which is expensive to the government and to the society.
